Over two long Studio sessions 'The Contortionist' appeared and evolved. I lay a fresh canvas on the floor & started with charcoal black, painting a random pattern, entwining it with vibrant mineral color pigments I sprinkled over, then painted in, to produce a delicious, rich, milk to dark chocolate base. Immediately on top of this i began to follow my hand's flow with the brush to find the contortionist in the chocolate & bring her boldly out and into life.
2nd session at Arato's. Primarily on 'Geometrica lll' I had work to finish to be content with the green background & it's consistency & direction of brush strokes of which I wanted all emanating from the center of the portrait. Once this was completed I felt much happier & ready to dive headfirst back into the contortionist. With her back on the wall, experimental music was bouncing behind me, interesting conversations rolled & I realized the desire to move my brush faster & transmit movement & colors of the night, pushing deeper into the painting to have it project the stronger sensory impact deserved. Finally after many hours that content feeling filled me again and I was happy to lay down my brushes to let the story be found in the image.
