The world is an expanse and every creature in it - an individual, as a person whether surrounded by others or alone in a field we stand in front of the sun as one significant being, apart from anyone else, feeling the monumental space around us & finding colours in the canvas of landscape to build upon our minds ...
Hot days driving to the studio, enjoying the process and keeping cool. This quiet afternoon Robert and I sat down to chat for a while before I set up my fresh canvas & mounted it on the wall in readiness. Deep blue sky tones, strong sun & the multitude of colours & sights of recent hot weeks filled my mind. A few musicians & other friends drifted in, the afternoon heat calmed & the sound of instruments built a new ambience into the night, I consumed myself with the work I was creating, enjoying every brush stroke, darting back and forth between colours as the piece came to life....
This painting for me explores emotional feelings of perspective and distance simplified.
At times when we look up & out into the sky for an uncertain comfort with things on our minds, a drift of such, the world seems to expand outwards leaving us standing alone on the vast edge of past, present & future with only our shadow in the face of the sun, bringing the perspective size of our significance & whatever we are thinking into reality.
A solitary being with a mind and feelings standing tall in the face of such immenseness, that itself in appearance at such distance can seem small at first sight until our realisation of it all sinks in, it's radiating glow pulses outwards, filling & illuminating us & everything around us as we release or reevaluate the clarity of our thoughts in these moments...
I felt the quiet urge to express this theme & explore with my brushes these feelings, colours and the light blanketing the canvas. The night & music helped give existence to this piece and further works of such matter I'd like to expand upon.
