The first painting for 2025 created around like minded characters at Aratos, for me it's such a great way to start the brushes rolling & a cool low key night of spontaneous artistic & musical freedom.
Canvas loaded, I drove towards the sunset & when I first arrived at Robert's studio there was no one around, I let myself in, perched a wooden chair in front of my fresh canvas, looked around the large space & sat calmly in complete silence... then took out a red soft pastel and began to create. Inspiration from the musical equipment around me & blended memories of recent & past performers started an intuitive projection of lines & expression that grew as I continued. The light darkened inside & night crept forward making it harder to see my forms. I decided it was time to find Robert in his house next to the studio. A knock on the window and he was straight outside, all smiles, and we headed into the studio together, snapping on the lights to bring the space alive. Soon after, a few new souls arrived and a bubbling atmosphere started it's ride forward, the concerto piano with fresh fingers sprang into tune filling the air, not long after others walked through the doors & picked up instruments to experiment long bursts of creation with. All the while I continued with my painting letting the feel of the evening & it's harmonics work their way into my paint selection & brushwork to emerge together onto the canvas.
